JTM presents a new course of instruction titled“Registered Nurse to EMT”. Overall, this course has the same educationalstandards and requirements as our traditional EMT course, with a very specific focus on academically and practically bridging the knowledge, skills and abilities of a Registered Nurse to that required as an Emergency Medical Technician.
The Registered Nurse to EMT Course (RN2EMT) is an educational program designed to streamline a process for currently qualified nurses to become eligible to obtain either a state or nationally recognized Emergency Medical Technician certification. This program evaluates the basic didactic and practical application components, which the nurse provides in the course of delivering acute clinical care, as in the emergency department, critical care unit, or in transport medicine venues.
There are many parallels in the knowledge, skills, and abilities found in these clinical nursing fields when they are compared to the standards required to be eligible for certification as an emergency medical technician. Registered nurses who are active in the clinical setting (as demonstrated by the submission of an unrestricted nursing license) are eligible to participate in this program.
COST PER STUDENT:
WHO SHOULD ATTEND?
Registered Nurses (RN), are allowed to attend this training program.
Certified Nurse Assistants (CNA) , Licensed Practical Nurses (LPN), Licensed Vocational Nurses (LVN) and similar medical providers not holding a Registered Nursing (RN) license are not eligible to attend this course.
All applicants will be carefully screened to ensure that they are both experientially prepared serve in a primary clinical capacity, and are licensed as an RN in the United States. Typically, the person applying to participate in this program will be required to submit professional licensure and resume. These records will become part of their JTM student file.
The course tuition includes all online training courses, textbooks & reference materials. Tuition also includes admittance into the EMT Skill Week that will be coordinated at the conclusion of the online/didactic portion of the course.
SUCCESSFUL COURSE COMPLETION:
There are three major pieces to the RN2EMT program:
- Every student within this program is required to complete 100% of the online program before being allowed to participate in EMT skills testing.
- Students are required to complete a minimum of one 12-hour observation shift on an ambulance ride-along.
- Every student within the bridge program will be required to participate in a Skills Training and Verification Program. Skill Verification is a four-day training and evaluation of the nurse’s knowledge, skills and abilities as they relate to the EMT program. Practice psychomotor testing documentation will be provided (similar to any EMT course) so that nurse candidate will know exactly what is expected during the evaluation day. Testing will meet and/or exceed the standards set forth by the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians.
OBTAINING AN EMT CERTIFICATION:
All students that successfully complete JTM’s RN2EMT course are eligible to take the National Registry of EMT’s EMT certification test through PearsonVue, a 3rd party testing center. (Testing fees not included in the RN2EMT tuition)
